Make-up inspiration heightens with IMATS show

One of our Make-up artists, June Westmore, is know for her career roots in Hollywood.
Though she's one of the busiest Wedding Makeup artists on the Central Coast she still takes time out to stay in touch with the Professional Makeup Scene, which was thick last weekend in Pasadena at the IMATS convention.  June dragged the Wedding Gallery Crew; Nicole, Cil and Kiki (our latest design team leader) to the show so we could see what the trends were for the upcoming year.

Not only did we get inspired by the edgy free form of body make-up and avant garde  faces, but we also got hip to the enormity of airbrush! AIRBRUSH ROCKS!  It's not just for fake tans anymore-it's big for High def, and everyday wear.

Wedding Make-up and Hair Services

I just want to let you, the bride in on a little conversation 
I had at the Wedding Gallery of San Luis Obispo, cuz sometimes 
you need to know the inside scoop between pros.

You want to make sure you get someone who is strong in both Hair and
Make-up for your wedding. You don't want a hairdresser who puts on make-up
or a Make-up artist who does hair.  Each entity is it's own specialty. 
Make sure to get experts in both.  Hours and hours of training goes into
both for each professional to keep up on tricks, trends and
professionalism. We're just starting to work with a wonderfully talented team at 
Studio 522 in Paso Robles.  They have hair peeps and paint people.  The hair folks
have a Bumble & Bumble background in hair- which is straight outta 
NYC and rocks hard.  The make-up team is separate team but they work great together
on location or in the salon.

Just to set the record in BALANCE...there are individuals who can do both hair and 
make-up WELL!
I know a couple tremendous talents that can play both- and that's AWESOME!!!  
It's just the exception rather than the rule, so make sure when you're shopping
for both- be aware that the two services are specialties and don't assume that
some one who's great with a face is just as good with a head of hair!

 

Wedding Make-up classes

Make-up classes are now being held at The Wedding Gallery of San Luis Obispo.  Classes are taught by Emmy award Winning Make-up artist FILM INDUSTRY MAKE-UP LEGEND, JUNE WESTMORE.

These classes aren't just for Brides as the blog title suggests, but for young teens, their moms, professional women needing a competitive edge, and people in the make-up industry.

Three-One day Make-up classes for people working in the beauty or make-up field is being held Saturday May 31^st, June 22^nd, and July 26^th.  The class is for four hours and costs $189.00.  The make-up class is for people who want to learn a life long art of maximizing their own beauty.  Students learn the secrets and techniques of the professional make-up artist.

"There are hundreds of opportunities here on the Central Coast for Professional Make-up Artists.  Spas, and salons that do make-up  as well as commercials and films that are being shot here on location," June states, "The time is ripe for proper education to put out true professionals."  Courses will include field trips to film studio sets so students can see how a larger part of the industry works.  A certificate of completion will also be given to student who finish the intensive class.  Advanced theatrical and special effects make-up classes will also be offered in the fall.

CLASSES ARE NOW ENROLLING FOR ONLY SIX STUDENTS TO BE ACCEPTED BY APPLICATION. Classes are small so each student can learn sided by side with June , “The way they do it by apprenticeship so the person can really learn their Trade. Classes meet twice a week Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm-10:00 p.m. 12 weeks, held in downtown San Luis Obispo at The Wedding Gallery, 1335 Broad street.

She owned a salon in Tucson until I moved back East where she started working with an Off Broadway Production Company learning the basics of stage make-up. From there she returned to Tucson and began working at the Famous “Old Tucson” movie location. She met the Grandson of George Westmore; Montague Westmore and began an apprenticeship with Monty for the next 3 years.

 

In the 1980's she became Make-Up Department Head for a major Television Network for three years and taught make-up at the Regent University 's Masters program in communication and the Arts.    In the late 1980's I moved to Hollywood and became a member of the Make-Up & Hair Industry's IATSE local 706 and began working full time in the Film and Television Industry.

   

She earned my Emmy's along with 15 Emmy Nominations and has now moved to the Bridal Industry as I make my transition and relocate to the Central Coast .

  She has been fortunate over the years as she can incorporate all my experiences from film, television and stage to you, the bride to be.
