I was standing in my Gallery one day when this beautiful girl drove into the parking lot in this big truck. I thought, "Who's that I have to shoot her!" I figured she might be going into see the tenant upstairs, but as it turned out she was stopping by the Gallery to see me and show me her husbands' incredible video work.
They had just gotten married and I had just opened the Wedding Gallery of San Luis Obispo, so we were both jubilant with our 'new beginnings.' I made her my usual pot of tea and we discussed the prolific talents of her husband Josh, that is, Rain Studios. Of course that was quickly usurped by her taking out her laptop to show me her beautiful wedding photos. Later I met Josh, who had graduated from the school of film at Biola-Marymount. We quickly bonded talking about all the cool grip equipment. He was impressed that I knew what a C-Stand was...I was impressed that he had his own crane.
I wanted a film maker to be a part of the Gallery to balance out the traditional selection of wedding videographers we had. Josh has a very, very strong cinematic eye. I really hesitated to support his interest in the wedding industry at all- just because it can take it's toll on raw talent. But he's a sharp kid who knows where he's going and what train he's going on. He signed on to the Gallery and agreed to film my TV Commercial, since we both had the kind of TV experience I wanted for that project.
Here's what I like about Josh and Katherine, and Eli, who is also an important part of Rain Studios. They stop at nothing to get the shot. NOTHING stands in their way of anything creative and authentic. These guys are young, smart and they've got what it takes to be on top. Here's the other thing that's KEY...they sell the job, they shoot the job, and they edit the job. No punches pulled. Try that test on half the wedding videographers in this industry and you won't find that to be true. He's got a KILLER trailer playing in the gallery right now that'll blow your socks off. If you want to see something really cool ask to see his X Games Reel---that'll hook the groom!
